The Food of Spain and Portugal - a review

A stunning overview of the 21 regions of Iberia highlighting the different gastronomic variations in each - written with style and a clear love of the landscape, people and food of the area

Nobody Does It Better: A Review

Nobody Does It Better: Why French Home Cooking Is Still The Best In The World - on the evidence of this passionate and entertaining book, French home cooking is still in pretty fine fettle.

Bloggy hell, it's been two years...

posted Wednesday, 19 September 2007

Funny how time flies when you're having fun.  Or maybe I just got old.

Anyway, this blog is two years old and doing OK, despite the bad name, the bad design, the lack of navigation and the fact that little old me is updating it.  You'd think that all these factors would stop people visiting, but no!

Here are some top 5s from the blog:

Top 5 posts (by number of visits):

  1. Another Sea Bass Recipe - with ginger and spring onions
  2. Spaghetti Bolognese - my way
  3. Pan-fried trout with chunky tzatziki, mixed vegetables and sauté potatoes
  4. Sea Bass with Fennel and Pink Fir Apples
  5. Vanilla Ice Cream with Pedro Ximenez

5 of my favourite posts:

  1. Why English Food Isn't a Joke
  2. Balls!
  3. Spaghetti with pancetta, chard and cobnut pesto
  4. Saffron - possibly my favourite of all spices
  5. A Tale of Two Salads

5 things I've learnt over the last two years:

  1. There are hundreds (thousands?) of dedicated food bloggers out there, many with terrific writing skills
  2. I can't write as well as I thought I could
  3. Taking great photos requires dinner getting cold - so I take mediocre pictures and eat my dinner hot
  4. I cook more fish than I thought I did - certainly if you look at the recipes here
  5. There is no end to the subjects you can blog about

So here's to the next two years...

That's so true! Taking photos of dinner makes dinner a cold congealed mess!

Your writing is good, don't put yourself down! It's a good blog, one that I enjoy enormously. When are we going to see things from your Black Book??

Thank you everyone - too kind ;)

I have a stack of recipes from the Black Book which I need to get sorted out - to give you a clue as to what's coming: - Chicken thighs stuffed with chorizo and almonds - A kind of bouride - Roast beef, beetroot and horseradish dressing - Food (well, drink) from the hedgerow - Smoked mackerel with cobnuts and a few others I'm working on
