What I'm saying on Twitter (rubbish usually)

Try something new today

posted Tuesday, 20 September 2005
So Sainsbury's have launched their new branding with the tagline "Try something new today". It's an interesting approach - personally, I liked "Making life taste better", but I'll be watching closely to see if this revives the supermarket's flagging fortunes.

I notice today on Sainsbury's website that the 'different thing to try' is carrots with thyme. But they don't tell you how to make the dish... a click-through to the recipe might be an idea?

Meanwhile, uber-supermarket Tesco today announced record profits (again) - recording half-yearly profits of £908million... Their tag-line is 'Every Little Helps' - there's a joke there somewhere...
Maybe tag-lines aren't the way forward in the battle of the supermarkets - but here's the analysis:

Tesco - market share: 30.5% - slogan: Every little helps
Asda - market share: 16.7% - slogan: Always low prices
Sainsbury's - market share: 15.7% - slogan: Try something new today
Morrisons & Safeway - market share: 11.3% - slogan: More reasons to shop at Morrisons
Somerfield - market share: 5.9% - slogan: Good food made easy
Waitrose - market share: 3.7% - slogan: None

It's interesting that the top two focus on 'value' (ie low prices, rather than true value)...

Interesting - just checked the Sainsbury's site again - and the carrots-with-thyme ad hasn't changed - so much for trying something new TODAY!

I'm surprised you haven't mentioned the good nutrition of walnuts. They are super high in anti-oxidants/Omega-3 Take a look at the comparison chart on superfoodgrower.com when you have a second.
